Foundation in 1938

As far back as 1908, Fr. Alberione, during his brief experience as chaplain in a parish of Piedmont (Italy), understood the importance of a congregation exclusively prepared and dedicated to the animation of the local community, in close collaboration with the parish priest.

The insight concretized only after 30 years, on the 7th October, the Feast of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary.

Early years of foundation in Australia

Three Italian Sisters came to Melbourne, Australia in 1955 (14th November) at the invitation of Fr Percy Jones, Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Parish in Carlton. With the influx of post war Italian migrants  he believed that a community of Pastorelle Sisters  involved in home visitation, running a pre-school, assisting with the animation of the liturgy  and ministering  to the recently arrived Italian young women,  was a ministry that responded to the new emerging needs.

As an international congregation, our Australian community has always had a multicultural component.  Two young women from the Philippines joined the community to have their postulancy in 1962 and later on went to Italy to continue their Novitiate.

A few years later a number of local young women, some of migrant background joined the community.
